Eligibility
In order to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, families must live at least 60 miles outside the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, have a child age 19 or under with a life-threatening illness, and receive a referral from a hospital social worker.

About Our Rooms
The Ronald McDonald House of the Twin Cities has 48 rooms. All rooms are slightly different and are meant to accommodate families' varying needs. All of the rooms include a private bathroom, small refrigerator, air conditioning, private phone line, TV/VCR and varying combinations of double beds, bunk beds and sleeper sofas.

Kitchen Facilities
Each family living at the Ronald McDonald House has access to kitchen facilities. Stoves, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, cooking utensils and dishes are available. Through our Cooks for Kids program, volunteer groups from the community sign up to cook and serve evening meals for the families. A schedule of the meals and menus is posted each week.

What is Provided

You'll need very little for your stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
We provide:

  •  bed linens (be sure to bring any "favorite" pillows, blankets, stuffed animals)
  •  towels
  •  paper products
  •  cleaning supplies
  •  videos
  •  some children’s toys
  •  cooking supplies (pots, pans, coffee makers and coffee, utensils)

Cost
The cost is $15/night, if you are financially able. Payments can be made weekly, monthly, or at the conclusion of your stay. You can also be billed following your stay.

Parking
The Ronald McDonald House has two parking lots where families can park their cars. Upon check-in, families will be issued a parking pass that must be displayed from their car’s rear view mirror.

Transportation
The University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital Fairview provides transportation to and from the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Ronald McDonald House also provides transportation to and from Super Target on Monday and Thursday evenings.
