The Wittleder Family

Patient: Lance
Age: 14 months
Diagnosis: End Stage Renal Failure (Kidney Failure)
Length of Stay: 10 months

Lance was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure while still in his mother’s womb. His parents knew their son would need to be a fighter, so they chose to name him after a man with steely determination: Lance Armstrong.

To prepare to receive a kidney from his father, Lance needed extensive medical treatment. His family – from Duluth, Minnesota – wanted desperately to be Lance’s support team throughout his hospitalization and treatment. Thanks to the open doors of the Ronald McDonald House, Lance’s team was able to stay together. The House provided Lance’s parents and sister with warm beds, healthy meals and the freedom to focus on their goal: helping Lance race down the road to recovery.

“Our stay at the House has been a gift.”
