The Wittleder Family Patient: Lance Age: 14 months Diagnosis: End Stage Renal Failure (Kidney Failure) Length of Stay: 10 months Lance was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure while still in his mother’s womb. His parents knew their son would need to be a fighter, so they chose to name him after a man with steely determination: Lance Armstrong. To prepare to receive a kidney from his father, Lance needed extensive medical treatment. His family – from Duluth, Minnesota – wanted desperately to be Lance’s support team throughout his hospitalization and treatment. Thanks to the open doors of the Ronald McDonald House, Lance’s team was able to stay together.
